SUMMARY:February 2023: A Slice of Life Out of America’s Past with Pat Martin
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our February 2023 Writer’s Night on Tuesday\, February 7 beginning at 6 pm at The Art Center in Grand Junction. **Scroll all the way down past this post to register. \n  \nA Slice of Life Out of America’s Past\n  \n \n  \nA native of Oklahoma\, local author Patricia Martin grew up listening to the stories told by her maternal grandmother of her early life homesteading on the plains of Kansas and Oklahoma in the late 1800s. Martin’s determination to chronicle these true stories resulted in the exciting historical novel\, A Meadowlark Calling\, once described by 20th Century Fox as “a slice of life out of America’s past.” \nPlease join us Feb. 7\, 2023\, at 6 p.m. at the Art Center for Pat’s slide presentation featuring the real people and places depicted in her book\, which is set for filming in 2023 by Talmarc Productions. \nThe WCWF has also requested that Pat recite one or two of her cowboy-style poems! \n  \n  \nBio for Patricia Martin \n \n  \nOriginally from Oklahoma\, local cowboy poet Pat Martin has lived in Colorado since 1960. Always a cowboy at heart\, Pat traded her stick horses for the real thing and never looked back. She has worked on six different ranches in Colorado and Wyoming\, where she gained insight into cowboys and the cowboy way of life. \n  \nShe began writing and performing cowboy poetry several years ago and has presented at venues such as Durango\, Colorado\, Heber City\, Utah\, and the “world series” of cowboy poetry\, Elko\, Nevada\, where her work was well-received. According to Pat\, cowboy poetry differs from other forms of poetry in that\, instead of just painting a pretty word picture\, it tells a story\, and those stories will evoke emotion—you will laugh or perhaps shed a tear at the true-to-life adventures portrayed.
