Writing for magazines and newspapers is a great way to hone your craft while you’re waiting for your next novel or children’s book to be published. Learn how this journalistic style of writing helps you make connections and improve your writing skills.
Join BEACON Senior News Editor Cloie Sandlin as she discusses the art of writing engaging stories for magazines, newspapers and the web, from pitching stories to an editor and coming up with interview questions to weaving your interviews and research into a finished piece that hooks your reader. She’ll talk about style, best practices and what makes a good article (quotes are key!). She’ll also cover fact-checking your story and journalism dos and don’ts.
Cloie Sandlin has been with BEACON Senior News since 2009. As Editor in Chief, she works to reshape the public’s views on aging by showcasing the talents and feats of local older adults via inspiring stories and engaging content, both in print and online.
Cloie is an accomplished freelance writer and journalist. Her work has been published in numerous local and statewide publications, and has won awards from North American Mature Publishers Association. She’s a Colorado Mesa University graduate with degrees in Public Relations and Advertising.
When she’s not working, Cloie is usually traveling, crossing musicians and bands off her live music bucket list with her husband, or spending time with her two dogs.
