Textures: Considering Sound in Writing
Presented by Lisa Connors
In writing, sound is more than just using sound words, like whisper or clang. Sound is the actual letters themselves and the sounds they make. Consider what a garden sounds like – long and short I’s, soft S’s and H’s, perhaps? Using Hyacinth or Narcissus, rather than flowers, gives the feeling of a quiet morning in the garden. Choosing the right words based on sound can add subtle layers of meaning, tone, and texture to our writing.
